Here’s an update from on our royalty
applications
Annie
(MTI) Application has been made and we are awaiting an answer.
Grease
(S. French). We requested an official royalty estimate; in response
they sent me a copy of our application for summer 2009 and said the
figures would be the same. The license fee was $1600 for 6
performances, plus $350 rental charge for materials and a $400
deposit.
Cinderella
(R&H) We have been granted a license agreement on this musical.
Official fees: Royalty: $1380; Rentals: 485.00; Deposit: 400.00;
total due: $2265.00. License expires on 8/24/09 (after the vote),
but it should be no problem to renew it if this play is chosen.
Hello Dolly
(Tams/Wit) We have received permission to perform this musical. Cost
is as follows: Royalty and rental for 1st performance:
$840.00; each additional performance: $520.00 each. (total:
$3440.00). Deposit is $200. Transpositions of music for $285-535
depending on the number of songs transposed.
1940’s Radio Hour
(S. French) French will not accept formal applications more than 12
months prior to production dates. They did give us this official
royalty estimate: Royalty fee: $1350; Rental fee: $600; Deposit
fee: $800. No restrictions expected.
Smoke
on the Mountain (S. French)
Application was made but rejected because it is more than 12 months
prior to production date. They did give us this official royalty
estimate: Royalty fee: $3350; Rental fee: $600; Deposit fee: $400.
No restrictions expected.
A Tuna Christmas
(S. French) Application was made but rejected because it is more
than 12 months prior to production date. They did indicate that
royalty cost would be $75.00 per performance ($450) plus cost of
scripts. They did give this ominous note, in big bold letters:
Restrictions currently apply on this title, please inquire for
specific details and licensing availability. Didn’t James warn
us about this?
A High Country Christmas
Carol (Dramatic) Our performance
royalty quote is $150.00 per performance (Total $900.00) plus cost
of scripts at $7.50 each.
Rumors
(S. French) Application was made but rejected because it is more
than 12 months prior to production date. They did indicate that
royalty cost would be $125.00 per performance PLUS a 10.00 music fee
per performance ($810) plus cost of scripts. They also give this
ominous note, in big bold letters: This play must be done as
written with no changes, deletions, or omissions to the dialogue or
situations, no exceptions; in addition, the staging of the play may
not be done in such a way as to obscure or soften the language.
Does anyone else who read this play find this concerning?
Arsenic and Old Lace
(DPS) We have been granted an official license for this play. Cost
will be $450.00 for royalty, plus $105.00 for purchase of scripts.
Dearly Departed
(DPS) We have been granted an official license for this play. Cost
will be $450.00 for royalty, plus $75.00 for purchase of scripts.
Don’t Cry for Me Margaret
Mitchell (independent) With the help
of Brian Jones (thank you!), we got in touch with the authors of
this play and this is what they wrote:
“Jane Reid at Danville Little Theatre
was kind enough to forward your e-mail to us concerning our play
DON'T CRY FOR ME, MARGARET MITCHELL.
“We are our own agents and you may
contact us at any time should you require our assistance. We charge
a flat rate of $100.00 per performance. A copy of our play will be
e-mailed to you upon request and you may make as many copies as you
wish at no charge. We request a 50% advance on the total payment any
time before your opening. The remaining payment can be made any time
following the last performance. We will be happy to include some of
our newspaper reviews for your Play Selection Committee if you'd
like.
“Thanks for going to the trouble to
locate us. We hope to work with you in the future. In the meantime
we wish you a wonderful season.”
V.Cate and Duke Ernsberger
As soon as we hear back from MTI on
Annie, I’ll let you all know.
